Milngavie

Websites for the Milngavie businesses that never got round to it

If you're not there when someone looks you up, the answer they find is a competitor who is.

Milngavie sits on the Allander Water, about six miles north west of Glasgow. The granite obelisk in the pedestrianised precinct marks the start of the West Highland Way, so walkers pass through in numbers from spring onwards. The Lillie Art Gallery is on Station Road, and Mugdock Country Park is a short run up the hill.

A shop on Douglas Street can rely on people walking past it. A plasterer working out of Clober cannot. Neither can the therapist with a room above the precinct, or the tradesman whose van is the only sign he exists. When those people are searched for by name and nothing sensible comes up, the job goes elsewhere.

Our desk is in Glasgow, on the Southside at G41, so we are not local to Milngavie. Reckon on half an hour by car, up the A81 through Canniesburn Toll. None of that shows up in the bill. The £500 is the same figure for a business on Main Street as it is for one round the corner from us.

  • The precinct, Douglas Street and Station Road. Shops, cafes, salons and the small studios above them.
  • Main Street and Gavin's Mill Road. Pubs, restaurants and the food and drink trade at the bottom of the town.
  • Clober, Craigton and Barloch. Joiners, electricians and gardeners working from home on the estates.
  • Mugdock, Baldernock and Bardowie. Nurseries, kennels and outdoor businesses on the roads out past the reservoirs.
  • Bearsden, Clydebank and Kirkintilloch. Covered on exactly the same terms as Milngavie itself.

Milngavie in detail

Milngavie businesses trade collectively and by season

Milngavie is one of the few towns near Glasgow where businesses fund their own marketing together, and where trade has a season.

Milngavie is unusual for a town this size in that its businesses pay to market the place themselves. The town centre businesses fund a business improvement district through an annual levy, and they have voted it back in by ballot for a third term running to 2029. It pays for shop front grants, seating, events and shop local campaigns. The effect is real, and it is collective. It raises the town, and it never mentions you.

There is also proper working stock in the town, which is rarer in this part of East Dunbartonshire than you might think. Cloberfield Industrial Estate holds terraced units with workshops and trade counters, and the enterprise centre at Ellangowan Court rents small managed units to couriers, therapists and one person service firms. Those businesses sell to trade buyers and to people who will never walk past the door. Their websites are read by someone comparing three suppliers on a phone in a van.

And Milngavie trade has a season, which most Glasgow suburbs do not. Baggage transfer firms have run out of this town since the nineties, the guest houses fill from spring, and the cafes and outdoor shops feel it. Those bookings are made weeks or months ahead, usually by someone who is nowhere near Scotland yet. So the site has to sell in January, when the town is quiet and nobody is walking anywhere.

  • Cloberfield Industrial Estate. Workshops, trade counters, vehicle work, fabrication and storage, in terraced units off the main road. Nobody wanders in. Buyers arrive having already searched, so the pages need the unit number, the gate hours, what you actually make or fit, your lead times, and how far you deliver. Photographs of the workshop beat stock images of somebody else's factory.
  • The enterprise centre at Ellangowan Court. Small managed units let to couriers, transfer services, therapists, consultants and one person trades. The address is a unit inside a shared building, which reads as vague unless you handle it. Say what the business does in the first line, show the person, and give a direct number rather than a shared reception.
  • The levy paying businesses in the town centre. Shops, salons, cafes, opticians and estate agents inside the improvement district. The shared campaigns bring people into town looking for a category. The search that follows is for a name, and that is where you either exist or you do not. Your own pages carry your hours, your stock, your booking, and nobody else's.
  • The end of the railway line from Glasgow. Coffee, bakeries, dry cleaners, barbers, nurseries and takeaways trading on commuter rhythm, busy before nine and after five. Exact times per day matter more than anything else on the site, including Saturdays and bank holidays. Add the last order time and whether you can have it ready for a particular train.
  • The guest houses and outfitters that live off the walking season. Accommodation, gear shops, taxis, baggage transfer and cafes serving people who booked long before they arrived. Enquiries land in winter for a week in June. The site needs next year's dates, deposit terms, cancellation rules and a reply route that works out of season, because a silent inbox in February costs the summer.

Why £500 once beats "from £350"

Budget web packages advertise a low headline price, then tie you to a monthly direct debit for a year and a half. Here's how that actually adds up.

Our three year figure is £500 plus roughly £20 a year for domain renewal after the first year. One like-for-like note: pay-monthly totals usually include an email inbox and ours doesn't. Email is an optional add-on, priced on request. We do offer optional care plans from £24.99 a month if you'd rather we looked after the site. It is never required, there is no minimum term, and the three year figures above assume you don't take it. Even allowing for that, the gap doesn't close. Comparison figures are typical advertised UK prices for budget and DIY packages in 2026, and minimum terms are those the providers publish themselves. Always check what your own quote includes.

£500, fixed. Half gets the build started; the other half is due only once you've approved the finished site. If we can't get it right, you don't pay it, and the site still transfers to you.

  • You approve it before the balance is due. Not the other way round.
  • We carry the risk. If we can't get it right, you don't pay the balance.
  • It's yours outright. Site and domain, both in your name.

After you're live · optional

Never want to think about this again?

Once your site is live it is yours. It keeps working whether you pay us another penny or not, and most owners simply renew the domain each year. If you would rather hand the upkeep over, there are two plans. Both are optional, month to month, and neither is mentioned on the call.

  • Care plan, £24.99 a month. Hosting, domain, backups, three changes a month and a traffic report. For a site that is live and just needs looking after.
  • Success plan, £99 a month. All of that, plus changes as you go, Michael directly rather than a ticket, and half an hour on the phone each month.
  • Neither is required. The £500 does not depend on it, and we only raise it near the end of a build if we think it would genuinely help.

The full detail of both plans →

The bit that matters

£0required

You can take the site and never hear from us again.

Cancel any time, and the site stays yours. It does not come down, it does not get locked, and we hand over every login.

That is not how most monthly website deals work. The usual arrangement is a small setup fee, a direct debit, a minimum term of a year or more, and a site that stops being yours the moment you stop paying. Which is exactly why this is written here rather than buried in terms.

How it works

Four steps, and you're only ever committed to the one you're on

01 Free

See a free preview

We show you a preview of what your site could look like before you spend a penny. If it's not for you, that's the end of it. No hard feelings.

02 £250

Start the build

Like the direction? The first half, £250, gets the build under way. We have a quick call about your business so we can write your pages properly.

03 About a week

Site goes live

Your site goes live at your own address about a week after our call. You get up to two rounds of changes to get it just right.

04 £250

Approve it, or walk away

Approve it and the last £250 completes the £500. If we've not got it right, you don't pay it. The deposit covers the work done and the site is still yours.

Questions

What Milngavie businesses ask before getting a website made

Does being up in Milngavie rather than in Glasgow slow anything down?

No. Everything except one phone call is done by email, and that call takes about twenty minutes: what you do, who you want to hear from, what goes on each page. Drafts come back to you the same way. Milngavie is roughly half an hour from us, so if you would rather do it face to face over a coffee in the precinct, say so and we will come up. Same £500 either way.

We are flat out from spring and quiet by November. What is the site meant to do all winter?

Sell next season. Most of the enquiries that fill a Milngavie summer are made in the dark months by someone planning ahead, so the quiet period is when your pages earn their keep. We put next year's dates, deposit and cancellation terms, and a clear statement of what is already booked up. We also make sure the contact route works when you are not on shift, because an enquiry that goes unanswered in January is a booking somebody else takes in February.

The improvement district already markets the town. Why do I need my own site?

Because the levy markets Milngavie and your site markets you. Shared campaigns, events and the town centre work are genuinely effective at getting people to come here and look for a category: somewhere for lunch, a hairdresser, a gift. What happens next is that they search a name, or tap a listing, and land somewhere. If that somewhere is a Facebook page last updated in spring, the campaign you helped pay for has just delivered a customer to whoever did have a site.

We are in a unit and sell to trade, not the public. Is a website worth it?

Yes, and usually more than it is for a shop. Trade buyers do their comparing before they ring, often from a van, and what they want is dull and specific: what you make or fit, what you hold in stock, minimum orders, lead times, delivery radius, account terms and the hours the gate is actually open. Put the unit number and estate name on every page so a driver can find you. Five pages of that beats a brochure site with a hero image and nothing under it.

How much does it cost to get a website made in Milngavie?

Across the UK in 2026, freelancers typically charge £800 to £3,000 for a small business website and agencies £2,500 to £10,000. Budget packages advertise from around £299 to £350, but usually add £20 to £30 a month on a minimum term of a year or more, which works out dearer inside two years.

Ours is £500 once, the same price in Milngavie as in Glasgow. The only ongoing cost is about £20 a year for the domain, and that goes to the registrar, not to us. See the full price breakdown →

Will my site be set up to rank in Milngavie searches?

Yes. Your Milngavie location and the areas you cover are written into the pages and the underlying code, so the site says Milngavie Precinct, Douglas Street, Station Road, Clober, Craigton, Barloch rather than just "Scotland". We also set up or tidy your Google Business Profile, which is what puts you on Google Maps when someone nearby searches for what you do.

Nobody honest will promise you a particular position for £500, and we will not. What we will do is the groundwork properly, which is more than a lot of sites at any price get.

Do you cover the areas around Milngavie too?

Yes. Bearsden, Bishopbriggs and Clydebank are all covered on exactly the same terms, and each has its own page: Bearsden, Bishopbriggs, Clydebank. If your town is not listed, ask anyway, because the answer is nearly always yes. Here is everywhere we cover.

Can you build the whole website for me?

That's the whole idea. We do all of it: the words, the design, the photos, the domain, the hosting and the Google side, then show you the finished site and you tell us what to change.

Your part is a 20 minute phone call and any pictures you've already got on your phone. There's no software for you to learn and nothing for you to write.

Are there any monthly fees?

None that you have to pay. Hosting, the security certificate and backups are included for the first year, and after that the only bill is the domain renewal, about £20 a year, paid directly to the registrar. There's no contract and nothing to cancel.

If you would rather we kept looking after the site there are optional plans from £24.99 a month, but you can take the site and never hear from us again and it will carry on working.

What's the catch with the £500?

There isn't one. We keep the price down by doing one focused job well: a fast, good-looking site that gets you found and gets your phone ringing. £500 is the whole price of the website.

What it doesn't buy is an online shop, a booking system or a custom-built app. Those are real development jobs and cost real money, and if that's what your business needs we'll say so on the call rather than sell you something that won't do it. More questions answered here.
