The Fernies have had this corner since 2019

Marie and Alan took the lease in the spring of 2019, painted it themselves and opened with four tables and a second-hand espresso machine. It's eight tables now and the machine is better, but it's the same two behind the counter most mornings.

Their daughter Rhona does the baking before the doors open, which is why the cake runs out by two and why nobody here will pretend otherwise.

Marie is on the pans and rewrites the board every morning. Alan is on the coffee and knows what you had last time. Rhona bakes, then goes home.

Dogs are welcome, and always have been

Bring the dog in, there's a water bowl by the door and biscuits behind the counter. Muddy paws are fine, the floor has seen worse.

We can't hold tables, but if there's more than six of you, phone ahead and we'll do what we can with the back corner. Prams fit; the step at the door is a low one.

Two minutes up from Duke Street and round the corner from Alexandra Park. Come off Duke Street at the lights and it's the third on your left. Bellgrove and Alexandra Parade are both a walk; the 38 and the 41 stop on Duke Street.
