01 What we do

From a sticking door to a full fitted kitchen

No job too wee. If it's made of wood and it's in a house, we've probably built it, fixed it or fitted it, mostly in tenement flats, where nothing is ever square.

  • A fitted kitchen in dark brown units with an integrated oven and microwave

    Kitchens

    Fitted, or fit-only

Supply and fit, or fit only if you've bought your own. Measured right, hung straight, and finished properly around the awkward bits: the boxing-in, the end panels, the bit behind the pipe.

  • Floor-to-ceiling fitted units running the length of a narrow hallway

    Storage

    Wardrobes, alcoves and under-stair

Built-in wardrobes, alcove units and under-stair cupboards that use every inch of a tenement flat, including the walls that lean.

  • Light falling across the edge of a wooden door and the floorboards below it

    Doors & trim

    Doors, skirtings and facings

New doors hung and eased, period skirtings matched to what's already there, and creaks and gaps sorted for good rather than filled and forgotten.

  • A hardwood floor with afternoon light across the boards

    Floors

    Hardwood, laminate and repairs

New floors laid flat, and original boards lifted, patched and re-laid. Finished clean at the edges, which is where most of it goes wrong.

  • Close-up of weathered vertical timber fence boards

    Outside

    Decking, fencing and garden timber

Decking, fencing and raised beds built to take a Glasgow winter, not just to look good in July. Treated properly before it goes down, not after.

  • A wooden hand plane resting on a length of planed timber

    Small jobs

    Repairs and the wee stuff

Sash windows freed, hinges fixed, shelves put up straight. The jobs the bigger outfits won't come out for, which is why most people phone us the first time.

Not sure which of those it is? Describe it in your own words. That's what the visit is for.

Eighteen years of it

Every job on this page was set out by hand, on site, in flats where nothing is square.

02 Getting a price

Free visit, then a price in writing

Three steps, and you can stop after either of the first two without owing anything.

  1. James comes round

He looks at the job, talks it through with you, and tells you there and then if it's not worth doing. Usually inside the week. No charge, no obligation.

  2. A price in writing

By email within two days: itemised, with what's included, what isn't, and how many days we'll be in your house. The price we quote is the price you pay.

  3. Job done, place tidy

We turn up on the day we said, do the job right, and take the mess with us. Anything that isn't right, we come back and sort it.

Why there's no price list on this page

Because a sticking door and a full kitchen fit aren't the same job, and neither are two kitchens. Any joiner who gives you a number before he's seen it is guessing, and a guess is either too high, or it's the one that grows once the work has started.

So there's nothing to pay for the visit and nothing to pay for the quote. You get a real figure in writing, and you're welcome to take it away and set it against anyone else's.

03 Method

The dull bits are the ones that matter

Anyone can screw a unit to a wall. Whether it's still straight in five years comes down to the setting out, and to somebody being fussy about it on the day.

An empty room with new floorboards down and bare plaster on the walls
Floor down, skirtings next. Rooms look like this in the middle of a job, and we'd rather you saw it than didn't.
A hand marking a pencil line on a board against a steel rule
Setting out. Marked, checked, then cut: the part that stops a wardrobe fighting a wall that isn't plumb.
Hands feeding a length of timber through a bench saw
Cut to size on site, so a made-to-measure unit actually fits the alcove it's going into.

What's left at the end of a day. It leaves with us, in the van.

04  Where we work

Southside born, Southside based

Based in Shawlands, and most jobs are within a couple of miles of it. That's on purpose, it means coming back for a ten-minute fix doesn't cost anybody a day.

Shawlands / Govanhill / Pollokshaws / Battlefield / Mount Florida / Langside / Strathbungo / Cathcart / Newlands

Just outside that? Phone and ask anyway. For a bigger job we'll travel further, and for a wee one we'll tell you honestly that somebody closer will be cheaper.

Tell us about the job

Rough detail is fine, you don't need measurements. James reads these himself.

or just phone 0141 496 0154

How this works: pressing the button opens your own email app with the details filled in, and you send it from there, nothing leaves your device until you press send, and you keep a copy. Got photos? Say so in the message and we'll reply so you can attach them.

Or just phone

On the tools most of the day, so if it rings out, text or leave a message and you'll hear back the same evening.
