Johnstone
Websites for the Johnstone businesses that never got round to it
If you're not there when someone looks you up, the answer they find is a competitor who is.
Johnstone was laid out as a cotton mill town at the end of the eighteenth century, which is why the centre is built around two squares. Houstoun Square still has its bandstand and the shops around it, the High Street runs off it, and Thomas Shanks Park gives the town its green space.
Johnstone is close enough to Paisley that the work can drift that way. Someone in Elderslie or Kilbarchan looking for a tradesman will see whoever shows up first, and a Paisley firm with a decent website will beat a Johnstone one with none. That is not about quality. It is about being findable.
One thing to be clear about: we are in Glasgow, on the Southside, roughly twenty five minutes from Johnstone on the M8 and the A737. Being out that way does not add anything to the bill. The price is £500, fixed, and it is the same figure we would quote a shop on our own street.
- Houstoun Square and the High Street. Shops, cafes, barbers and takeaways.
- Cochrane Castle and Spateston. Trades and van based services.
- Quarrelton and Johnstone Castle. Joiners, electricians and cleaners.
- Milliken Park and Corseford. Garages, workshops and small contractors.
- Elderslie, Kilbarchan and Linwood. Covered on the same terms.

Where Johnstone loses jobs to Paisley firms
We cover Johnstone and the ground around it, taking in Quarrelton, Cochrane Castle, Spateston and Milliken Park, along with Elderslie, Kilbarchan and Howwood next door.
Johnstone sits a short run west of Paisley, on the same railway line and the same bus route. That closeness is convenient and expensive. When a Johnstone household needs an electrician, a fair number of them type Paisley into the phone, because Paisley is the bigger name and the results come back fuller. Johnstone firms lose those jobs without ever seeing them.
The way back is to claim both. A Johnstone business is genuinely closer to Kilbarchan, Howwood and Lochwinnoch than any Paisley firm, and those villages send a steady stream of work into Houstoun Square and the streets around it. Write the village names down. Say how long the drive takes. That is the argument a Paisley competitor cannot make.
What Johnstone businesses get wrong online
Writing Paisley and surrounding areas on a Johnstone site.
CommonIt sounds bigger and it works against you. Johnstone customers looking for someone local read that line and conclude you are based in Paisley, which is exactly the firm they were trying not to phone.
No mention of the villages.
CommonKilbarchan, Howwood and Bridge of Weir are short runs from the town centre. Leaving them off the site hands that work to whoever wrote them down, and it is usually a firm with a bigger marketing budget.
Leaving the address off entirely.
CommonSole traders often hide it for privacy, then wonder why nothing local shows up. Naming the town, even without the street, is what tells a search engine and a customer that you are in Johnstone rather than out past Linwood.
Johnstone in detail
The town the Renfrewshire villages come to
Johnstone's real trading area is a ring of small villages, and the wards, the roads and the railway all point inward at the town.
Look at how Renfrewshire draws its council wards and the shape of Johnstone's market falls out of them. One ward is Johnstone South and Elderslie. The one alongside it is Johnstone North, Kilbarchan, Howwood and Lochwinnoch. Bridge of Weir and Brookfield sit just beyond, and Clyde Muirshiel Regional Park opens out past Lochwinnoch. Johnstone is the town in the middle of that ring, and for a great many people living in it the everyday errands, the appointments and the trades all land here.
The ring is stitched together by two stations and one road. Johnstone station sits beside the town centre and Milliken Park serves the west end and the south west side of Kilbarchan, both on the Ayrshire Coast Line. The A737 bypass runs past Johnstone and Kilbarchan on its way to the M8, and it is how nearly every van and nearly every customer actually moves. Thomas Shanks Park, where Beith Road meets Quarrelton Road, is the other place everybody can find without being told twice.
The centre itself is squares rather than a strip. High Street, William Street and Walkinshaw Street run around Houstoun Square and Ludovic Square, the pair of civic squares the old cotton town was planned around, with Houston Court behind them and the Town Hall on Church Street holding the library and the theatre. Out past that lie Quarrelton, Corseford, Spateston, Johnstone Castle and Cochrane Castle. Most firms here are one person and one van covering all of it, which is a wide patch for a name to travel.
- Houstoun Square and Houston Court. The squares are where the ring does its business: hairdressers, opticians, pharmacies, bakers, cafes and small offices. Your customer may be driving in from Howwood and has only so much patience. Say where to park and keep the hours accurate, because a wasted trip in from a village does not get repeated.
- Kilbarchan, Howwood and Lochwinnoch. Mobile trades live out here: joiners, plumbers, gardeners, groomers, mobile mechanics, cleaners. The customer has never seen your van and is asking a phone rather than a neighbour. Name each village in the copy, show a finished job in a couple of them, and keep reviews beside the list of areas.
- Bridge of Weir and Brookfield. Bigger houses, longer driveways and more ground, which is a different job and a different quote from exactly the same trade. Landscapers, tree surgeons, decorators and regular cleaners find their better work up this way. The site needs photographs at that scale and a clear statement of the size of job you take on.
- Johnstone and Milliken Park stations. People catching the Ayrshire line have a fixed slot before or after work, which suits barbers, gyms, dog walkers, chip shops and anyone doing collections. Being open when that train runs is worth more than being cheap. Put the real times up, let somebody hold a slot from a phone, and say how far you are from the platform.
- Beith Road and Quarrelton Road. The Thomas Shanks Park end of town is corner units and yards: garages, tyre fitters, vets, takeaways, a chemist. Convenience trade, decided in about a minute on a phone. One clear line saying what you do, the number at the top, whether you take walk ins, and directions to the right corner.

Why £500 once beats "from £350"
Budget web packages advertise a low headline price, then tie you to a monthly direct debit for a year and a half. Here's how that actually adds up.
| Feature | Savvy Website | Typical pay-monthly package | DIY site builder |
|---|---|---|---|
| Up front | £500 | from £299 | £0 |
| Monthly fees | None you have to pay | £20–£30 a month | £13–£25 a month |
| Minimum term | None | Often 12 to 18 months | Rolling, but forever |
| Cost over 3 years | £540 | around £1,200 | around £700, and rising |
| Who writes the words | We do | Usually you | You |
| Your own domain | Included, first year | Sometimes included | Paid extra |
| Who owns it | You, outright | Usually them | You rent it |
| If you stop paying | Nothing happens | Site comes down | Site comes down |
Our three year figure is £500 plus roughly £20 a year for domain renewal after the first year. One like-for-like note: pay-monthly totals usually include an email inbox and ours doesn't. Email is an optional add-on, priced on request. We do offer optional care plans from £24.99 a month if you'd rather we looked after the site. It is never required, there is no minimum term, and the three year figures above assume you don't take it. Even allowing for that, the gap doesn't close. Comparison figures are typical advertised UK prices for budget and DIY packages in 2026, and minimum terms are those the providers publish themselves. Always check what your own quote includes.
The only clause that matters

- We carry the risk. If we can't get it right, you don't pay the balance.
- It's yours outright. Site and domain, both in your name.

After you're live · optional
Never want to think about this again?
Once your site is live it is yours. It keeps working whether you pay us another penny or not, and most owners simply renew the domain each year. If you would rather hand the upkeep over, there are two plans. Both are optional, month to month, and neither is mentioned on the call.
- Care plan, £24.99 a month. Hosting, domain, backups, three changes a month and a traffic report. For a site that is live and just needs looking after.
- Success plan, £99 a month. All of that, plus changes as you go, Michael directly rather than a ticket, and half an hour on the phone each month.
- Neither is required. The £500 does not depend on it, and we only raise it near the end of a build if we think it would genuinely help.
The bit that matters
You can take the site and never hear from us again.
Cancel any time, and the site stays yours. It does not come down, it does not get locked, and we hand over every login.
That is not how most monthly website deals work. The usual arrangement is a small setup fee, a direct debit, a minimum term of a year or more, and a site that stops being yours the moment you stop paying. Which is exactly why this is written here rather than buried in terms.

Questions
What Johnstone businesses ask before getting a website made
You are Glasgow based. Does that mean my site will be aimed at Glasgow rather than Johnstone?
No. The site is written around Johnstone and the places you actually work, Elderslie, Kilbarchan, Linwood and Howwood, so that is what it turns up for. Where we sit does not change that. The whole build takes one phone call of about twenty minutes, then email. Johnstone is around twenty five minutes from us on the M8, so we can meet in person if you would rather. Same £500.
Most of my work is out in the villages. How do I get found in Kilbarchan or Lochwinnoch when my name says Johnstone?
By writing the villages into the site rather than hoping Google works it out. We give you a short areas section naming Kilbarchan, Howwood, Lochwinnoch, Elderslie, Brookfield and Bridge of Weir, then caption the job photographs with where they were taken, which is far stronger evidence than a list alone. Your Google Business Profile is set up as a service area business covering the same ring. None of that costs you Johnstone, and it starts you ranking outside it.
Is there a limit to how many villages I should list before it starts to look like spam?
Yes, and the line is honesty. List the places you will genuinely turn out to and no more. A dozen village names is fine if you really do work in all twelve, and obvious padding if half are forty minutes away. Google has got good at spotting the difference and so have readers. If you only travel further out for a big enough job, write that in a sentence. It saves you the wrong enquiries.
I am one person with one van. How do I stop losing mornings to jobs I was never going to get?
Make the site do the filtering you currently do on the phone. We put up the kinds of work you take and the kinds you do not, a rough starting figure so nobody is shocked, and how far out you go before a call out charge applies. Then the form asks for a postcode and a photograph, which tells you more in ten seconds than five minutes on the phone. Fewer enquiries come in, and far more of them are worth the diesel.
How much does it cost to get a website made in Johnstone?
Across the UK in 2026, freelancers typically charge £800 to £3,000 for a small business website and agencies £2,500 to £10,000. Budget packages advertise from around £299 to £350, but usually add £20 to £30 a month on a minimum term of a year or more, which works out dearer inside two years.
Ours is £500 once, the same price in Johnstone as in Glasgow. The only ongoing cost is about £20 a year for the domain, and that goes to the registrar, not to us. See the full price breakdown →
Will my site be set up to rank in Johnstone searches?
Yes. Your Johnstone location and the areas you cover are written into the pages and the underlying code, so the site says Houstoun Square, High Street, Quarrelton, Cochrane Castle, Johnstone Castle, Spateston rather than just "Scotland". We also set up or tidy your Google Business Profile, which is what puts you on Google Maps when someone nearby searches for what you do.
Nobody honest will promise you a particular position for £500, and we will not. What we will do is the groundwork properly, which is more than a lot of sites at any price get.
Do you cover the areas around Johnstone too?
Yes. Paisley, Renfrew and Barrhead are all covered on exactly the same terms, and each has its own page: Paisley, Renfrew, Barrhead. If your town is not listed, ask anyway, because the answer is nearly always yes. Here is everywhere we cover.
Can you build the whole website for me?
That's the whole idea. We do all of it: the words, the design, the photos, the domain, the hosting and the Google side, then show you the finished site and you tell us what to change.
Your part is a 20 minute phone call and any pictures you've already got on your phone. There's no software for you to learn and nothing for you to write.
Are there any monthly fees?
None that you have to pay. Hosting, the security certificate and backups are included for the first year, and after that the only bill is the domain renewal, about £20 a year, paid directly to the registrar. There's no contract and nothing to cancel.
If you would rather we kept looking after the site there are optional plans from £24.99 a month, but you can take the site and never hear from us again and it will carry on working.
What's the catch with the £500?
There isn't one. We keep the price down by doing one focused job well: a fast, good-looking site that gets you found and gets your phone ringing. £500 is the whole price of the website.
What it doesn't buy is an online shop, a booking system or a custom-built app. Those are real development jobs and cost real money, and if that's what your business needs we'll say so on the call rather than sell you something that won't do it. More questions answered here.
